Today, i stopped being lazy and started my training for the 8K.
I am always amazed at my ability to maintain completely self amused. It comes from a childhood where I'd have to wash dishes or clean the house if I said I was bored. Bored people are boring people etc..etc.. I'm NEVER bored. Thanks Mom & Dad.:)
So, I'm going around for my first mile looking ahead, enjoying the sunshine, letting Kanye reinforce that whatever doesn't kill me... etc..etc..when i spy with my brown eyes... what looks like a runaway slave. NO JOKE! This man was up ahead on the side of the trail working out in the grass barefoot and bare chest, just jeans. Large PERFECT round salt and pepper fro. Chisled. I thought I saw whip marks on his back. But every once in awhile he'd do this stare fare away into the distance thing where it made it seem like he was looking over yonder for revolution or freedom to come.
I was in tears. The closer I got the more i realized that I was alone and didn't have a camera. All I have is this vivid picture in my head .I kept thinking he looked like Bruce Leroy @ 56. Still ready for battle. IT was amazing.And... i had no one to share it with... darn.. i wish i had more people around to show the crazy things i see in life.
But, needless to say.. the walk was great. Saw a man with skin tight, yet baggy sweats. It looked impossible, but he was working the miles with them sweats on. I had a great day :) Saw a lady doing this impossible speed walking thing where her arms swing waaaaay above her head and she has this crazy stride. But, she never seems to go anywhere. I think she needs to get her stride checked. She may be exerting too much unnecessary energy. BUT, i see her walking past my house at least 3 times a week. So that's more i can see for my lazy ass.. :)
But i got it...I got my training schedule and determination and a focus on my workout gear and stride so i don't find my crazy speedwalking/running sprints posted on the internet.. whatever..
The point is, these people including myself made it/ make it out there with consistency..and no matter how we dress or move our bodies across those miles. I see the SAME people out there all year long, young, old, black/ white/ asian etc.. working it out.. I've seen people out on the trail since last fall who look GREAT and we always smile and take notice of each others improvements. It's always great to get to the race and see a face you recognize in the crowd. Running alongside you and cheering you on, cuz they've seen your progress through the seasons..
it's a good feeling. No matter how we dress or move it. We're doing it..
Peace,Love and 8k
JW :)
