Figuring me Out Slowly

She needs to be told she's beautiful

if you say nothing else to her
smile hello
let her know
she is beautiful
that her smile can compete with the sun for your attention
that her laughter can uplift the song of the sad
that her presence simply being is enough
and if she never shares another kiss
or bares another inch
or sacrifices her good sense in moments of self torture
or permanently etches her angst into her skin
or straddles the fence just to see if your looking
that she is beautiful
please
don't look into her anger and see past the source of it really being her pain
don't see the tears and feel the tug in your soul and assume it's a false positive
please don't ignore your intuition when you see her
it's real
please tell her fathers and her uncles and her brothers and her sons that she needs love
that she's more than a thing
that just because she dresses to get attention
treat her like a museum and don't touch her
stand back in awe
drawn in her beauty
find new words to describe her
edify her
extol her
affirm her
bless her future
and make amends for her past
give her the shoulder she's crying for
and the ear she's yelling for
the support she's yearning for and
the presence she's looking for
just be for her
simply
but please don't forget to tell her
she's
beautiful.

Just stopping by...amazing work! What a gift you have. I went through a few of your postings, by way of Luke Cage and I just wanted to tell you that your blog is incredible. I will be adding it to my list of daily reads.

And by the way...the post on Country Boys? I almost fell out of my chair.

Be well, and thanks for the great coffee reading.
