There are some songs I've learned that I've loved without do cause. I can recall at the lankey age of 7 or 8 singing in the shower at the top of my lungs Tina Turners "What's Love Got To Do With It" and my dad sticking his head in the bathroom telling me to hush up... But i was FEELING IT! at 7.. at 7 what the hell did i know about LOVE? I'm an old empathic soul... darn..
When i first heard Lauryn Hills "When It Hurts So Bad" I loved the song... could sing the shit out of it.. and mind you by this time my singing skills had improved... I had my first car and it was a lovely Red 91 Jetta with a sunroof.. I was stylin' and doing a video shoot everytime i zipped through town..
but one thing bothered me about the song.. I didn't really get the it hurts so bad yet feels so good aspect of the song.. I'm a dreamer.. I'll finally own up to it. It's a life long occupation that makes me a great songwriter.. yet a horrible realist. So this hurting love.. i didn't get.. till it happened to me.. I understood it.. But i didn't get it.. till it happened.. and that's when you want to say "Fuck Love & Fuck You for hurting me .. but...my stupid ass loves you" I grow up real quick when pain is involved.. But i more than understand the lyrics..
What you want might make you cry
What you need might pass you by
If you don't catch it
And what you need ironically
Will turn out what you want to be
If you just let it,
If you just let it
they make complete sense.. though i always thought she got it wrong.. it's the old belief that the thing you want doesn't want you.. or love you the way you love or need it ....and the thing your not looking at, loves you and treats you as good as shit yet you can't see it b/c your stuck on a love that treats you bad.. yet maybe fucks you REAL good.. silly kids.. Tricks are for kids.. WAKE UP..
but for those who aren't hip to the lyrical stylings of L. Hill here is
"When it Hurts So BAD"
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
Why's it feel so good?
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
Why's it feel so good?
I loved real, real hard once
But the love wasn't returned
Found out the man I'd die for
He wasn't even concerned
I tried, and I tried, and I tried
To keep him in my life
I cried, and I cried, and I cried
But I couldn't make it right
But I, I loved the young man
And if you've ever been in love,
Then you'd understand
What you want might make you cry
What you need might pass you by
If you don't catch it,
If you don't catch it,
And what you need ironically
Will turn out what you want to be
If you just let it,
If you just let it
See, I thought this feeling
It was all that I had
But how could this be love
And make me feel so bad?
Gave up my power,
I existed for you
But whoever knew the voodoo you'd do?
But I, I loved the young man
And if you've ever been in love you'd understand
What you want might make you cry
What you need might pass you by
If you don't catch it
And what you need ironically
Will turn out what you want to be
If you just let it,
What you want might make you cry
What you need might pass you by
If you don't catch it
And what you need ironically
Will turn out what you want to be
If you just let it,
If you just let it
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
Why's it feel so good?
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
Why's it feel so good?
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
When it hurts so bad, when it hurts so bad
